    Hi.

I have been told that my laptop motherboard should be able to upgrade to an core2duo, but I will most likely require a bios upgrade, what wil happen without an bios upgrade, will the laptop not boot at all.

also will me cooling system be able to cope with an core2due heat wise.

last thing an core2due runs at 1066 fsb, and i have 533mhz memory is that ok.

    thanks.

    john.

First you need to make sure that your notebook can support Core 2 Duo. Have a look at the manufacturers website, and see what processors are supported. The chipset is a value one, so it may not support it at all. If you install a new processor without updating the BIOS. it will either not boot at all, or recognise the new processor incorrectly.

Cooling wise, it depends on what processors are sold in the notebook. If Core 2 Duo is sold, then your cooling system should be able to support the heat from the processor. Generally, heat isn't a concern with the new Core 2 Duo. Also, the memory speed doesn't make a difference. You have 533 MHz RAM, and that will do fine for Core 2 Duo. Also, Core 2 Duo for the notebook has an FSB of 667 MHz, not 1066. The FSB of 1066 is for the desktop version.
