With the T2400, my Laptop booted as a Centino inside...
With the T7200, it's booting as a Celeron inside?
Isn't a celeron cheaper than a centrino?
I used CPUID and it did confirm that its a T7200 Core2 Duo.
------------------\
Anyone else with a T7200 confrim the boot screen cpu logo? I got this cpu on ebay from HK.

I think that there might be BIOS issues here, however, if anything should be correct, it should be the BIOS, so if worst comes up, then you dont have a t7200, but another CPU that has different data about itself, like a p8600 thinking its a p9500.
-
Isn't the T7200 based on the centrino cpu?
It might be a bios problem. -
There is no such thing as a centrino cpu. gah i wish people would stop thinking this.
-
You probably have to update your BIOS as it is not identifying your CPU properly.

hes right, centrino is the combanation of technologies from intel inside the laptop, not the CPU it's self. I have the Centrino 2 , but have a P7350 CPU.
-
So the Intel is wrong and Pc mag is right.

Your BIOS didnt recognize the T7200 as a centrino compliant CPU.
So it reverts back to a non centrino mode which showed it as a celeron. (should have said Core Duo though)
Its nothing to worry about.
What notebook and BIOS version? -

hp dv1000 - bios? 1/2007 - F.51 Current
Well, my old T2400 was recognized as a Centrino
The current T7200 is recognized as a Celeron.
I don't know where it got celeron from. So I'm guessing the CPU is not compatible. If it's not recognized on the bios that mean its useless correct? Even though Vista recognize it as a duo care T7200. -
Sure the CPU has nothing to do with Wireless but the Centrino processor will take advantage of the wireless technology, and provide performance gain, and provide longer battery life according to Intel statement.
When Intel says Centrino Processor, thats where I got it from. If "Centrino" isn't a processor, What it is? A "package"? haha.
thats why The Centrnio sticker says Centrino on it. And that Sticker usually refers to a CPU, not a "Package".

Centino is a combination of intel CPU, chipset and wireless. Take one of them away and its no longer Centrino tech.
When people swap out their wireless cards for an Atheros or such, it loses the Centrino logo at bootup.
Yes, its just the BIOS didnt get the update for it so its just throwing it out as a Celeron. Probably because the dv1000 is old. -
Lol you are wrong and the others are right. END OF STORY. I love how people come to a forum for help then refuse to be corrected. If you dont want to learn dont be here. Intel can have their screw ups. Please tell me what you think is the difference between Centrino and Core...

Because your BIOS does not recognize the CPU properly. The T2400 is a Core Duo processor. The T7200 is a Core 2 Duo processor. Core 2 has a number of differences. I am surprised the computer works. If Vista runs fine and you see 2 cores then I dont see what to complain about. I think you probably only see 1 core. Then you are SOL.
p.s. Go read the product brief for Centrino 2 please:

Your BIOS does not fully support the T7200, because it is outdated. The CPU probably came out after the dv1000 has been phased out.
Its just showing Celeron because it cannot recognise it properly. Its nothing to worry about. Theres no such thing as a fake CPU -
So, should I just take it out and sell it? Since my laptop doesn't support it.
Or, am I fine since Vista recognizes it. -
-
I tested the Vista 64bit cdrom from my bro, and my laptop now lets me install it. b4, with the t2400, it said, "your cpu does not support this Operating system". something like that.
But i'll keep my 32bit vista the way it is. -
since that T7200 does not work in your system, send me a PM, and if the price is right, I may buy it from your. It would be a nice upgrade from my T5300.

It's all good now. Just have an annoying celeron logo during bootup thats all. -

Anyways heres some CPUID info.

My gusse of why it says celeron is because dv1000, dv5000 and dv8000's never came with core 2 duos' as the core 2 duo's came out hp released a new bios to support them but then switched to a new serries and never actually put them into them. So while you can run it the laptop never came with one so because it dosent know what it is it just says blah its nothing good enough to be listed as a core duo so its a celeron. The cpu is running fine its just a little picture. Also strange but my brothers dv8000 with a t5500 does not do this.
-
But my old t2400 was a core duo??? The boot up showed Centrino duo..
upgraded to T7200 from a T2400 why does boot show celeron?
