    trying to install a 1.7 or 1.6 in my D800 which had a 1.3 ....

    neither chip will even boot...

is there something I need to look at or set in the bios or something... I have tried both chips 4 times

put the 1.3 back in and it booted up fine like normal..

the chips are supposed to be compatible Centrino chips

You may have also bought 533MHz FSB chips? Those won't work in the D800 regardless of the BIOS revision.

by chance, did you lock the cpu into the socket with the screw?
If you didnt turn the screw 180 degrees to lock the cpu into the socket the system will not turn on
