trying to install a 1.7 or 1.6 in my D800 which had a 1.3 ....
neither chip will even boot...
is there something I need to look at or set in the bios or something... I have tried both chips 4 times
put the 1.3 back in and it booted up fine like normal..
the chips are supposed to be compatible Centrino chips

Did you upgrade to the latest BIOS?
-

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You may have also bought 533MHz FSB chips? Those won't work in the D800 regardless of the BIOS revision.
-
I believe they would, but they would downclock. ie the 1.86GHz processor running at 1.4GHz
-
thanks for responding....
the chips are not 533fsb chips..they are the 400fsb ones
going to try it again now that i updated the bios -
by chance, did you lock the cpu into the socket with the screw?
If you didnt turn the screw 180 degrees to lock the cpu into the socket the system will not turn on
