    if i wanted to upgrade the HD in the compaq presario v5000z, what kind do i get? ide ultra ata, sata 150, sata 300, sata II, ata 100, ultra ata 100, etc, etc, etc....?

    what does all the garbage mean? and which one is compatibale with the compaq presario v5000z? is 2.5 inch the right size? any other concerns that i should have?

    If it says ATA and/or IDE and it's a 2.5" drive, that's what you want. You don't want SATA (Serial ATA). I'd look for a Seagate or Hitachi 5400RPM or 7200RPM drive.
