    • CPU is upgradeable to any Socket M Core 2 Duo, depending upon BIOS Support. (Do you run intensive tasks ?)
    • 2GB RAM is enough for XP, and is listed as Max by HP.
    • GPUs are soldered on HPs, and are not upgradeable.
    • Is the HDD Serial ATA ? If so, then you can go for any of the 320GB 7200RPM HDDs, which are super cheap atm.

HP doesn't list Core 2 Duo compatibilty in the BIOS update enhancements, so it'll be a gamble. (T5600/T7200/T7400 are options)

Though a T2600/T2700 should work, since they belong to the same Core Duo family.

To confirm if the HDD is SATA, go into Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Apart from the IDE channels, which driver is installed - Serial ATA or Ultra ATA ??

Your laptop uses socket M, and the fastest processors you can upgrade to are the T5300, T7200, T7400 and T7600.

The T7200 and T7400 are much better bang for the buck cpu's than the T7600

To find out if the drive is Sata or IDE, you can either remove the drive to find out, or you can do it Andy's way, or you can run hdtune, and tell us the model number of the drive.
