no one helped me on my "what to buy" thread haha so i figured a d620 would fair.

i want a 7200rpm hard drive and plan on upgrading to 2gb of ddr2 667 RAM to sort of future proof it.

what would be the best hard drive to get for my laptop? it must be 7200rpm and at least 60gb.

can anyone find very helpful how-to's or tutorials for these simple upgrades?
any help at all would be great, thanks! :D

first, get OCZ pc 5400 ram off newegg.com. It is just incredible. No other words to describe, the performance increase has been huge. In terms of harddrive, i got mine from dell (it was cheap to get the 80 gb 7200)

    this might be alright? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145005

And, if a mod could move this it would help you out. Send it to the dell forum, theres tons of latitude users in there that are VERY pasionate about there lappys and will be more than anxious to give their 2 cents!

dell does not have a brand of HD. like every other computer manu out there, they buy parts from multiple vendors because no single part vendor can meet dell's or ibm's or hp's or etc.'s needs.

i'll go ahead and just leave the thread here since it's more like generic upgrades than anything dell-specific.

if you don't get too many responses, you can ask for it to be moved.

a better way to approach the upgrades is to set your budget and then buy the best stuff you can within your budget.

Hitachi Travelstar 7200 rpm HD's are the best in terms of performance. As for RAM you should stick to the big names e.g Corsair, Crucial, OCZ and Kingston. Some also come with a lifetime warranty.

Seagate and Hitachi are the only makers that have 2.5" 7200RPM hard drives. I recommend the Hitachi TravelStar, because I have one in my machine and it has been flawless. Remember that you need one with a Serial ATA connection.

RAM - OCZ is great as mentioned. ZipZoomFly has it for $84.99 with free shipping:

    They have it labeled wrong (PC2-5200) - it's PC2-5400, don't worry.

I just added 1 GB stick of G.Skill PC2-5400 RAM (lifetime warranty) to my D620 and it works flawlessly. I got it on sale from Newegg for $75 shipped.

my HD is a hitachi travelstar (seems a little too nice to be included by dell), but ive been very satisfied. And to agree with chaz, zipzoomfly or newegg, great retailers and ocz great.
