    Hi everyone,

I have an old acer laptop with intel 945PM chipset (667Mhz FSB) and T7200 CPU with socket M and 3GB RAM.

I am trying to figure out if it is possibe to do this cpu upgrade. On one site i found this cpu P8800 which should have socket M packaging. However the cpu is running 1066Mhz FSB.

    See this link:

    Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile P8800 AV80577SH0673MG

The sales guy tells me that it will work with my laptop however he cant promise what cpu speed it will run with becaus eof teh slow FSB speed of my 945PM chipset.

Would this cpu be able to run with 945PM chipset that only supports 667Mhz??

Will the cpu just slow down the bus speed to match the chipset??

I would really appreciate if someone could help me out on this.

    Thanks!

FYI P8800 is socket P. The link you gave is for BGA type (soldered in).

Yeah for one it's socket P. And that is 1066 FSB so that processor would not work. You need a 533/667 FSB processor.

Your option for faster processor are only T7400, T7600 and T7600G. You have now 2GHz T7200 and T7400 is only 160Mhz faster 2,16GHz. T7600 will be bigger uprade because it's 2,33Ghz cpu but it's still quite expencive not mention T7600G - which is that same like T7600 but with unlocked multiplyer (option to use ThrottleStop and overclock) - this one sells for astronomical price. It's all depends from You. Find those cpu, check the difference in performance and prices and decice.

    Thanks for your replies guys.
Does this mean that even if two cpus have same socket types but the cpus run with different FSB then they wont be compatible?
