hi, i have a hp dv9000 which i bought 2 1/2 years ago. im wondering if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card which is currently in the laptop (nvidia geforce 8600m gs) with a more powerful and up to date card. can i do this, and if i can, what kind of graphics card would i be looking for as a replacement?

Keep your current GPU cool, it's very likely to die.
Has the known faulty G84 core.

    Also HP notebooks run hot.

If you google your notebook you will see a lot of problems with the GPU.

yeah, thats part of the reason why i want to replace it. would have prefered just replacing the gpu, but ive been looking to get a new laptop anyways, this gives me an actual reason

Take it apart. I'm not sure if the 8600M GS has the MXM II connector, or whether it's just the 8600M GT. If it is MXM II, then you could probably pick up a 9600M GT off Ebay for $120 USD.

the HP has it soldered straight to the motherboard. Not all 8600m GPUs are MXM.

One reason why Acer can be better than HP...
No whitelist and uses the standard MXM...

Other Acer Models owners are pimping their rigs while I am stucked to a 9100M G
