hello i seriously need to upgrade my laptop, its a 17"inch hyundia laptop, what it really needs is a new mother board as its about 5 years old now, i've upgraded the memory in the pass but basically the processor is the problem now.
is it possible to install a new mother board that will take a dual core processor, or am i going to have problems with everything else. i don't really what to change as i really like the machine as a whole.
my system info
Board: Clevo 4xx Series Rev.A
BIOS: Phoenix 4.06 06/06/2003
intel cpu 4 3.06GHz
memory 756mb
video card mobile radeon 9000
60GB hard drive
does anyone have any advice, i am not unable to install the things myself, as i have already built myself my desk top computer so know my way around inside some.

Second the new laptop thing. You MAY be able to purchase a motherboard that is incrementally better than your current one, but it will certainly not be anywhere near equivalent to what is considered mainstream by any metric. Your ability to upgrade the laptop's motherboard will be wholly dependent on what subsequent laptops that hyundai released that use the same form factor.

You will not be able to install a different motherboard in your system. Every laptop is built differently, so even if you were to buy another motherboard from say another 17" clevo, nothing would line up and it would not work properly.
Unfortunately the cpu you currently have the 3.06Ghz processor with the 533Mhz FSB was the fastest mobile p4 processor you could get, so there were no more upgrade options.
A new motherboard will probably cost $200 or more, so its up to you.
Spend $200-300 and get yours fixed or put that towards a new laptop.

You can get some very cheap laptops these days that would be miles better... -

thanks for all the replys its just i really like the design of this laptop and i'm going to singapore next week so thought i might pick up a cheap main board. i've sent an email to clevo to see if it is possible to find a main board for this computer that takes a dual core at least. but from all your replies it looks as though i,m going to have to buy a new one.

if its anything like Apple, the motherboard will cost as much as a new laptop

dont wait on an email from Clevo, they automatically filter out and delete emails sent to them which are not from their resellers.
You could probably google the serial number/part number. who knows maybe someone on ebay has a motherboard for it, for cheap.
