    Hi people

I just broke my motherboard due to a corrupt bios and now nothing would turn on...

So I have to buy a new MB and was hoping to get a better one.

I have HP DV6 6155tx and it has Radeon HD 6490m.

I just found that a newer laptop 6165tx has same design and components and got a better gpu, amd HD 6770m.
So my idea is to get the MB from 6165tx as it has the same design and will fit just like original MB.

The fan slot, lcd connector, keyboard slot, speaker pins all are identical and in same position.

What does experts have to say here ? Like the mod of thinkpad t60 & t61 back in those days.

Any ideas, comments, advice is highly appreciated.

    Thank you ;)

I think you're assuming a lot by thinking it will be an exact replacement.

With a mobile MB issue, a new system is the best and cheapest move in the long run.

    Good luck.

newboysandynoob, all connectors must match, including battery; make sure they use the same heatsink and keyboard, otherwise there may be problems. 6770M is certainly much faster, but not a champion. New (or high-end used) system would be better.

Depends on cost.. If it's like 100-200 for new motherboard and you want to keep this laptop, go and get the better motherboard... otherwise, time to move on and get a new laptop...

Yes the laptop chasis and the motherboard is exact replica except for a few things and that won't interfere while installing the board...

Ill go after another 30 hrs to a nearby city where they have experts working on laptop repairs and all hardware stuff...

Will be updating my results right after I successfully install all drivers and test each function and ports for any incompatibility ;)
