i have a vioa vaio FE790 notebook. I want to upgrade the memory by installing an additinal 1GB dim. I need to know wether the notebooks use same kind of memory as desktop pcs or its different. It uses DDR2 dims.

Laptops do not use the same. You need 200Pin SODIMMs, and I would guess PC4200/4300 or PC5300/5400.
