i know the sticky says you CANNOT upgrade 99% of video cards in a notebook but i have a quick question. When i got my dv4000 it only came with the crappy Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 GM, but i recently found out that the dv4000 now comes with an optional 128MB ATI x700 discrete graphics card. as far as i can tell both computers are identical except for the graphics card. so my question is can i upgrade to that graphics card?

No, because your current graphic card is soldered on the motherboard and cant be replaced.

The HP dv4000 was discontinued some time ago, and has been replaced by the dv5000t.

The only way I can think off would be to replace your current motherboard with one which has the X700.
