ok... so i'm going to upgrade my dad's old laptop for him.
    i'm going to install-
    A hm160hc hard drive
    2x1gb DDR pc3200 Ram
    AMD ATHLON 64 3700+ cpu

will this laptop accept 2gb of ram? (advent states only 1gb of ram is supported but this may be all that was available at the time + the crucial memory advisor tool states it supports up to 4gb of memory)
will tis laptop acept the 3700+ cpu? (the stock cpu btw is the 3000)+

also the cpu is not soldered is it? are there any guides on the internet about dismantling this laptop?

    thanks

Buy the memory somewhere it's easy to return should it not work out. My guess would be it's not soldered.

i was planning to buy it from ebay.. since to buy it from a retailer or shop would cost me double the price... returning it to an ebay seller would be no easy task :\

You should be able to easily upgrade to the 3700+.
Just make sure that you buy the 3700+ mobile version. Their are like 3 or 4 different versions of the 3700+, so make sure you buy the right one.
