hi guys I got to this site while googling for a way to update my pentium M 750 processor.

in a perfect world I'd like to be able to upgrade to a intel core duo. but that won't be an easy task (impossible?) because it's using a Socket 479 mPGA and appearanlty the core duo processors don't fit on that? but also the motherboard chipset is different I've read. right now I have i915PM/GM but the new chipsets are i945PM/GM.

so is it possible to upgrade my laptop by buying a i945PM/GM chipset motherboard and a core duo processor?

or should I just buy the highest dothan processor I can get, some extra ram and just work on that for a couple more years and save me the hassle?

Your best course of action if you want a Core Duo would be to sell your notebook and buy one with a Core Duo. Laptop boards are highly specialized. If you are looking for a performance boost, a faster hard drive and more memory are always good candidates. Good Luck.

    What's wrong with the M750?

Wasting money has never been impossible but try to waste them in a right way at least.

well there isn't much wrong with the m750 right now. but I'd like to have more power in the near future since I'm using quite cpu intensive audio applications and i'm planning on using my laptop as a desktop kinda solution since I keep maxing out my current pc's processing power. but I guess you're right it would be a waste of money to turn my laptop into a core duo. some more ram and a higher cpu will probably be enough.

my current specs for the laptop are:

    pentium M750
    1024MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    60GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
    geforce go 6600

    thanks

The best option would be to sell it and buy a new one, IMHO
