    hey guys,
i'm trying to locate a replacement screen for my lenovo E540.

i searched for information on my current screen (N156HGE-EA1) and ended up in PANELOOK WEBSITE.
According to this site, (bottom of the page) there's a list of Compatible models (nothing impressive), and beneath that there's a list of models with similar or close enough specifications.

    http://www.panelook.com/N156HGE-EA1_Innolux_15.6_LCM_overview_20169.html

how can i make sense of that? can i choose from either of the two lists?

    thanks

You should choose from the first one. The latter list is sporting different specs such as 40 pins vs. 30 pins, shape styles and so on.

thanks, unfortunately non of the panels in the "compatible" list are good enough.
any idea what specifications i should confirm while choosing? (my current screen is fhd and uses edp).

It's easy: Just drag/click your panel and the desired panels on the "compare" Button and see, if there are any differences between the original one. If not then go for it! In most cases you can return them, if they do not fit. ;)

Just scrutinize carefully. There are so many specs that need to match. Physical size, usable screen size, bracket placement, thickness, connector, connector location ...

So true... Look at the LG 1080p 17.3" IPS display... Has a SPD1 and SPF1 models with different positioning of components etc... Slightly irritating if you ask me.. Why can't manufacturers stick to a standard set of panels where components are on a particular side!!!

First of all what are you looking for in new panel? Right now you have TFT panel with poor viewing angles and poor color. If you're looking for better color and viewing angle something like Samsung 156hl01-102 or AUO b156han01.2 should be nice upgrade. Most important things are: connector type (eDP, 2 lines in your case) and side of the connector.
I had the same shifty panel as yours in my MSI Apache, could not find Samsung, so got AUO instead, pretty happy with it.

BTW me think first table all panels in 156 HGE line, most not even compatible, 2nd table - comparable panels to what you have, 3rd table has compatible screen upgrades = better quality = hot, (probably poor translation from chinese)

I forgot to add, when ordering panel, make sure you request exact model number you want, otherwise they will send you some compatible junk

    thanks,
i couldn't find any online tutorials for replacing/upgrading the screen.
anyone that plans to replace the screen should confirm with the reseller that he gets the exact model and not any "matching model".

is there any relevant tutorial out there?
there are so many specs to compare. how to know what specs are critical for the screen to be compatible?

    one more question.
taking for example the lenovo e560. the brightness there is 234 nits. is it possible to upgrade the screen to a panel with 300 nits and get the high brightness, or is there a chance that the brightness is limited in bios?

    1. here , replacing screen on e545,
, this one how to disassembly e540
but replacing screen is similar on every computer: take out bezel held either by screws, tape or clips. if you have enough access unscrew the panel, unplug connector, put new screen. If not enough access, need to take hinges out. Just be very careful not to damage other cables, like camera, mic, maybe antenna, sometimes running under the panel.
    2. Already covered: same screen size, same connector on the same side, power usage could be little higher, especially that rarely there should be a need to run screen at 100%
    3. You should get 100% brightness at 100% setting, unless the computers power supply can't deliver required power to the screen, that's why there are screens that are compatible and some are not.

    thanks pete962,
i returned the lenovo e540 because it had problems with the fan noise. but i like the keyboard so i'm looking for a way to upgrade the low brightness screen currently used in lenovo E560.
the panel is LP156WF6-SPK2. for some reason i couldn't find the exact model on panelook. any ideas?

    e540 screen upgrading:
i recieved confirmation from an ebay vendor for the following panels. he approved that they are compatible to e540 fhd anti-glare, panel: N156HGE-EA1:

    AHVA B156HAN01.2
    LP156WF4-SPK1

both panels are good. make sure to double check that they are indeed compatible.
