    i just bought this
    http://www.excaliberpc.com/Asus_F8Sn-A1_Notebook/90N-SLRAA1336ABCQL0Y/partinfo-id-585098.html
will be here in a day or so, has been in transit for about 24 hrs. thought it was a fairly good deal. comparing it of course, to the g1s that i had been looking at prior.
    I also immedeately order this:
    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160
i want to order a t9300 as well. i found a site that has them in stock for 352.00
I plan to sell the drive currently in the notebook, as i see them go new on eBay for about 120. that away i essentially get the travelstar for free after rebate.
my question is, can that notebook be upgraded with a t9300 (although i am 99.9% sure it can) and if so does anyone know how hard it would be (i build desktops... so i have a knowledge of components) and perhaps if there is a guide i might refer to?
the way i have it figured, if i can get that t9300 in there with relative ease, i will have procured myself a notebook with more power AND portability than any g1 notebook offers. o yea.. i got an etra battery too... i do know that it is only 6 cell, but i do not plan to game whilst not plugged in that often.
thanks for reading, and for any feedback you leave!

    The T5450 is not Penryn. It's a Merom-2M.

Why do you even need to upgrade, especially before you've even received the laptop? Have you even using a T5450 and found it insufficient?

I could swear that the T5450 has been around waaaay to long to be 45nm. I don't know about compatibility, but the T9300 is a very big upgrade, that's for sure. That's a yes for the upgrade being worthwhile :)

i dont want to wait to find out whether it is enough to game heavily, if it is the general consensus here, that it would not be. or , for that matter , if several of you agree that it is just a worthy upgrade in general.
my buget was 1500 anyway, and including that upgrade i will be well under after selling the 250gb.

If you are happy to spend the money on the upgrade, go for it, but if you are unsure, use the T5450 for a bit and decide if it (T5450) is powerful enough for your liking.

Meh, I think you should try the base config as it is. I haven't seen any benches with the 9500M GS, but I'm pretty sure you're gonna be facing a GPU bottleneck rather than a CPU bottleneck with the T9300 and maybe even with the T5450.

I agree with the above. I'd really recommend trying the T5450 first before going straight for an upgrade. I can't see the point of immediately invalidating a free 2 year warranty on a brand new laptop.

ok then. i figured on waiting anyway.
    so another question...
if say , the gpu is the bottleneck, is there any way to upgrade them ?
or would that require a mobo upgrade.
in other words, if I am totally dissapointed with the way this thing (laptop from first link in first post) plays tf2, what else will i be able to do?
mind you i am rather intent on maxing that game out, at 1280.

Besides, if you were to do this upgrade, wouldn't you be voiding the 2 Year ASUS ensemble warranty? And worst, the 1 year accidental damage warranty as well..

The 9500M GS is too new to really know how well it performs, but it is based on the same core as the 8600 so it should handle TF2 pretty well.

This is a 14.1 notebook what would you even consider putting in? 8700m +8800m's not gonna happen. And I don't now if it has MXM connector. I kind of doubt small form factor and all. But if you could nothing to go to with 14.1. I like the upgrade but do agree CPU not going to be your bottleneck in gaming so if doing for that then no.

well honestly i want a good video editing experience as well. i will be travelling alot and wont have the luxury of using my desktop.
but seeing all of the previous replies... is it safe to assume, that provided a gpu that is superior and will fit in that samll of a form factor comes out, say, this year... that i could in fact upgrade?
and i think, that i am going to wait on the cpu. unless of course it bombs for video editing.
prolly wait a year, after accident warranty gone, then get something new on the cheap. or maybe not. still unsure. if anything was to go wrong, im positive i could fix on my own. would just need access to the parts.
heres hoping that never bcomes an issue.
but back to my initial question...
lets say, for arguements sake, went ahead and threw a t9300 in there anyway. i mean , hey, its a HUGE step up from the 5450.
is there a guide, that anyone knows of, for doing this on an f8sv-f8sn?
if not, im sure i can figure it out... i mainly want to knoww, if i should expect to need the saudering iron, or thermal adhesive as opposed to thermal passte.

I'm going to say probably not...

Even if there IS a small form factor card that would fit, you'd need MXM to swap cards as many of the video cards are soldered to the motherboard.

    Just my 2 cents
