I have an LG notebook (LW70-J3KA). It is running an ATI Mobility X600 and I was wondering whether or not it was possible to upgrade that to a X800 at all?

If so, where would I get one and what would it cost me?

    Thanks!

Sometimes you can, and other times you can't. They have those at best buy for a good $350 at least. But why not the X800 PE, it has better performance, but is more expensive.

    Nope, not possible :(

Unless you want to modify it yourself, meaning taking everything apart and then back together...solder the gpu out, new one in, etc.

Nah, not really! I think I will leave it alone if that is what's involved.

    Thanks. :)

Only notebooks with an MXM module (or something of that sort) are feasibly upgradeable. And even those can run in the $300-$500 range for an upgrade.

I wonder how graphic cards come soldered to the motherboard (in notebooks), and if for example a motherboard with turion and ati x700 if you could extract the x700 and solder a nvidia 6800 or higher, if the voltage and number of pins and other things are equivalent... Maybe there are some "do it yourself" webpages :budget:

Because you can change the graphic card, and also that graphic card has a nomenclature different, for example nvidia 6600 MXM. Are few models including that technology, so probably your laptop does not have MXM.

It would be stated MXM when you buy it..

If you open your laptop, and look at the GPU it should look removable with a slot, etc.

Is it going to be possible to upgrade from the Go 6800 to the Go 7800 if you have an Inspiron 9300?

don't think so... it will be very troblesome if it is actually possible in a 9300
