hmmmm............never heard of one
i usually turn the router off and then back on.............or click on repair the connection...............which usually works for me -
Range is really a hardware problem. Unless there are some settings for your wifi card that allow for more power consumption, you're going to have to try out a different card or an external antenna to boost the range.

I'm not sure what kind of laptop you are speaking of, but there are several things you can try. Sometimes there is a lot of interference because of another electronic device--microwave, phone, other router etc. In this case sometimes changing the channel the router operates on can help. Are you having difficulty connecting, or just have poor signal strength? The atheros brand of wireless cards are more powerful, but they do suck a little bit more juice.

if you're using an intel card you can go into network connections, right click on wireless, select properties, and hit the configure button to bring up a list of different settings for the card. i'm no expert on all of this but i've looked through them at least. there are some things there that change around the performance and power consumption settings, maybe if you find the right settings it'll increase your range a little bit. worth a try. any more experienced users know about these options?
