I recently received a new Gateway notebook with Vista Premium and am needing a usb or PCMICA sound card for music recording. I have a digital recording studio and need a card to record from my board to the notebook. I have yet to find a card that has coaxial spdif support. The ones I have found online only have optical spdif connections. I nearly bought the Turtle Beach SRM usb card, but it only had optical spdif adapters. Hope someone can help me out here. Thanks in advance.

Check out Terratec PHASE 26 USB. It's not too cheap though. But it is for music recording

A tad pricey at this point...don't have that much extra cash to spend at the moment. Any other less expensive options?

The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX has coax s/pdif out, but it's discontinued. And I don't know if it's still available. To be honest, I have no idea what else there is. I only knew about terratec, since I bought one for my brother.

thanks anyway...I think I read up on the audigy2, but I need both coax s/pdif ins and outs. Only option for cards with only optical is an spdif converter box optical to coaxial...well hopefully someone else might have an idea..

if I had only had 200 bucks to spend right now...says 249 on their site...nearly got the Turtle Beach srm for 59 bucks online, but since it only came with optical spdif adapters, I passed..as I said earlier, I need a cheaper solution

See if you can find something second hand... That would be your best bet. Getting something good and new for $59 will be hard.

yeah...jr.com had the Turtle Beach srm for that much, but now it's 79 bucks..., but not the solution for my needs...the M audio would work, but it is pricey at this point...I'm still Googling til I am cross eyed.

There's always ebay. If you're careful, you can make some great deals.

don't know if this could help, but ebay seems to have the Fasttrack Pro at around $150ish for used or b-stock items. don't know if that's getting closer to your price range.
