Hi, are there any kind of cable with both ends as usb heads..

so you can basically connect them between two computers and transfer files?

does this kind of cable exist? (i'm not referring to extension cables)

    thx

it does but it is not a simple cable with 2 male usb heads. there is something in the middle. it emulates a network between the 2 PCs. I think they are refered to as data cables.

I'll try and get a linky

yup exactly. newegg have a few under cables>usb. in case you are in the states and want a decent online store.

but don't expect much. i remember i once setup one of those for some one I knew and it wasn't fun. In the end it worked but I thought it wasn't worth it. I'd rather use a cross linked network cable.

Why not use a crossover cable? They're faster than USB 2.0 and are much more common and maybe even cheaper.

with a cross over cable, when you plug it into both ports, both PCs will detect that a network cable has been plugged in. And from there on it is the same as if you are plugged into a hub. You have workgroups, you browse shared drives/folders....

All that is required is the correct cable, whether you buy it or DIY

Not sure if I answered your question

well, you also have to assign IP addresses to each computer if you use a crossover cable. Unless there is some software to make one of the computers automatically assign IPs.

no that answered it completely thanks qwester and strikeback. I was looking for a way to transfer big files from laptop to laptop and this seems to be the perfect way.

    Thanks fellas!
