I want to use my new SSD for my windows pagefile (which I don't really need anyway with 4gb ram and 4gb readyboost, but I want to avoid HD hits), but it shows up as a removable disk. Under XP there was a trick to mount a removable as local/fixed, but it won't work under vista x64 (the driver is x32). I've tried copying pagefile.sys to the ssd and changing the registry entry for the pagefile, but that doesn't work. any ideas? anyone know a driver hack I could do to mount it as local?

WHY? seriously 4gb ram + 4gb of readyboost? are you sure you need more?!
-
Does readyboost really serve any purpose with 4 GB ram? I thought it only improved performance on low ram systems (1GB and below).
-
I believe in theory it should still help, but it is not implemented well currently, and with 2 or more gigs of ram there will be no noticeable improvement, infact in some places it causes your computer to slow down.
I have 2.5 gigs of ram and 1 gig intel turbo memory, I can't say I notice a difference, but my laptop does last longer on battery because my hdd isn't accessed as often. -
ReadyBoost is only good if your system does not have enough RAM. With 4GB of RAM, the OP does not need ReadyBoost...and an SSD would be a costly and ineffective way of using a pagefile.

readyboost definitely improves boot time and app loading time - its a 5400rpm hd.
I wanted to use the SSD to reduce pagefile and various caches from using my internal HD - i.e. load firefox, outlook, word, windows etc without having to spin up. -
With 4Gb ram you don't really need the pagefile anyway, I would just disable it.
using an expresscard SSD for pagefile
