    This forum helped me figure out that either "ata-6" or "ide ultra ata100" availabe thru newegg will work for a inspiron 5160. Yeah.

    I did find a picture of the ata-6 interface here also.

    But just for kicks I tried to find a picture of the "ide ultra ata100" interface, and have had no luck here or google.

    Is there any visual difference?

    Got a link to a pic of it?

    I can't find any pictures, but it would look just about the same. ATA interfaces are intercompatible.

    They are basically the same thing. That drive should work no problem.

    OK. One other question if I may. This unit was built in 04 and no updated bios is available from dell. Am I going to run into the 137gig limit issue if I put in a 250gig drive?

    You'll find out when Windows reboots into the GUI part of the setup.

    If it errors out (no boot drive seen), then simply partition the drive to less than 137GB and when the install fully finishes, simply create another partition for the remainder of the capacity.
