    Im a bit clueless looking for ram that will be compatible with my vostro 1720, i have 1dimm 2gb stick, and another stick from dell is 60$ i heard that getting ram elsewhere was way cheaper, where can i get ram that will work with my 1720? thanks

    You can use up to 8GB of memory in the Vostro 1720. Any speed of DDR2 memory will work, though 800MHz DIMMs are optimal. You can buy memory from your local brick and mortar or from an etailer like Newegg. In both cases it'll probably be cheaper than buying from Dell.

    His chipset maxes out at DDR2-667, but if DDR2-800 is cheaper, might as well get that. Look for DDR2 SO-DIMMs on Newegg. The cheapest memory with lifetime warranty will suffice.

    Vostro 1720 uses a 45-Series chipset... are you thinking about the Inspiron 1720?

    Oh possibly. I thought it was a 965 chipset. If it is 45 chipset then DDR2-800 will be fine.
