    i have a dell e1505/6400 with centrino duo @ 1.6Ghz and 1gb ram(2x512 installed from factory).
    1. should the memory speed be equal to the processor speed
    2. i have vista home premium and according to the kingston site vista will recognize up to 4gb but ive read in other places that it will only recognize up to 2gb?

    1. No. The memory bus speed and the CPU FSB speed may be different. For example Santa Rosa has 800MHz FSB but 667MHz RAM.

    2. 32-bit Vista can address just over 3GB. 3GB now provides the sweet spot for Vista RAM - different sized modules doesn't significantly affect the RAM performance but Vista will use as much RAM as it can find to pre-load files you are likely to use.

Yep, apples-to-apples, they are the same price as newegg (shipping included). Prices have increased a little in the last week. I am going to go to Frys and try to get a 2gb Crucial stick for $42 with a $22 rebate (limit 1) - wish me luck!

after googling for a while ebay seemed the only place to get the 2gb sticks at. the kingston site had some but they were like 120-140 each.

guys, you told him to buy the wrong stuff
The E1505 only can accept 2Gb of memory. He has just wasted a ton of money for 4gb of memory.
The bios can only recognize 2Gb of memory. I have stated this dozens of times on the boards.
You are probably going to get memory errors, since the maximum capacity in each slot is 1gb, not 2.
If it does work, than your system is only going to see 2 of the 4gb of memory.

I have the E1505, and it doesnt work with 4gb of memory, it will only see 2gb with the latest bios revision. I have tried this before, and after its fail, I returned the memory and put the original 2gb of memory back in.
