thought i got all the freezing and other oddities out of the way. just started doing it again. put it my old samsung 830 256gb and it won't boot. keeps boot looping. rma'ing both the crucial m500's i got for $150 apiece and getting 850 evo/pro. willing to pay the price for stability. not concerned about fastest speed and these ssd's only need to last 5 years tops. tired of rebooting the m500 utter crap. worse than the intel 320 160gb which worked wonderfully aside from not letting my np5160 go into standby. angry.

What notebook do you have now?
-
Sager np5160. Got it going fine after some tinkering. Haven't touched anything and it just froze.up on me twice in a row. My Samsung 830 won't even boot. Nonetheless I will have a new 170sm-a soon from xotic or mythlogic. I hate stuff that doesnt work correctly from the get go. Going back to Samsung. Gonna see what intel has for msata. Crucial gets a thumbs down in my book after the frustration I've been through.

With only a three year old platform, you shouldn't be having an SSD compatibility issues.
Does your model have a current firmware installed? -
If your crucial freezes and your Samsung 830 won't even boot, what makes you think it's the SSD's? It could be an issue with your laptop.

my m500's have mu05 firmware or whatever the number is. i know it's the latest. my samsung 830 which i just popped out and put aside and did nothing with just goes to a boot from x option screen and i keep selecting samsung 830 and it keeps looping back to the same screen. i go into utilities and make sure odd isn't first option and same thing still happens. oh and i forgot to mention, i turned off all hibernation, but my computer went into standby after the usual 4 hours in the balanced mode i'm currently using and it wouldn't wake up. plus the two freezes last night. frustrating since it took a lot of time to set up the m500 fresh install, not to mention some of the program issue installs i had that were not related to the m500, just finding the software or earlier versions that weren't buggy. just gonna RMA these 2 i thought i got for a good deal and spend the money on some proper sdd/s.

Hi.
I suppose you have the latest firmware for your notebook installed.

I would personally think there is something wrong with your laptop tbh...
I would suggest before rushing and RMAing the SSD's you try the following.. Disable write caching on your SSD's.. It seems to be causing some freezing in laptops with MX100s... See if this fixes your problems.. -
Just to be clear. My Sammy 830 is not booting, which I just took out and swapped in the m500. It should boot since I did in thing to it. I put the m500 back in and it boots. And tomjgx, I believe I did that. Not 100% sure as I went through a lot of steps when I first got my m500 and froze every boot. Tried different drivers, updated Intel chip set drivers, dl'ed latest Intel IRST but I think I reverted back on revision. I do believe I disabled write caching. This m500 is not verprovisioned even. I believe formatted it was 447gb and I op'ed it so I have 420gb. This is just too frustrating. I though I got all the kinks out of it and it's run great the last few days. Then yesterday, wouldn't wake up from standby and twice it froze up on me. No more crucial ssd's for me. Going Intel or Samsung.
And yeah I can't keep 'em. I was going to repurpose my np5160 as a media player hooked up to my onkyo 3009. Less remote stuff I do with my phone and more options with my next laptop anyways as far as streaming. -
It's a vastly different drive from M500 - as I'm sure you know yourself - and the fact that both of them are giving you grief makes me wonder whether there's something else going on with your setup... -
The 830 gave me no grief before. I am guessing something has happened to boot sector since I have plugged it into a hub to DL a lot of stuff on to the m500. Gonna try and reinstall over windows on the 830 tonight. Quote sure my setup is fine. Was fine until m500 showed up.

I had my 830 in over a dozen notebooks a mixture of different brands and it worked 100% , unlike the Crucial one i had which would freeze my notebook.

BOOYAH!! Just to update, i put my 830 back in along with my windows 7 disk and did a recovery so windows could boot. i am all good now. fixing to SE these pieces of crap and RMA them to amazon. like tinderbox said, i haven't had experience dumping my specific 830 in many other laptops but everybody i've recommended them to hasn't complained or called me for tech support. still on a search for msata. i already have my ram picked out, just need the perfect msata. hoping some more reviews popup on the 850 evo, but i may just suck it up and pay the price for piece of mind and get two 850 pros. i already made a thread but are there any good msata's that have hardware encryption? just started looking at intel today but didn't get to dig into it much because we had an elevator machine catch on fire.
well that's that! crucial m500 is crap...
