my sata II usb 3.0 enclosure came yesterday. transferred files from an intel x25-e inside the masscool enclosure at 70-90MB :p and higher yesterday. sustained. much better than my 3 year old icy box usb 2.0 enclosure. 20-40MB sustained read/writes with the x25e and craptacular less than 30MB unsustained speeds with a hdd.

anyways, the real pleasure of the ssd experience, is burnind dvd's, playing music, running distributed computing in the background, charging my nexus one, surfing the web, checking mail and transferring files back and forth with my x25e with the above mentioned speeds over usb 3.0. absolutely. no. hiccups. whatsoever. :D

bonus. i'm still using less than 40 watts an hour. :) albeit my workload is much higher than usual, i still average about <35 watts with normal use. :p

for multi tasking loads like mentioned above ssd's are a champ. for the multi taskers that think they're multitasking because they have 20 tabs open and can write an email at the same time need not apply. ;)

the downside still is that big hole in your pocket.

You do realize your transfer speeds are all about USB3.0 vs. USB2.0 and not HDD vs. SSD, right?

    Otherwise, sure - SSD's do multi-task better than HDD's. :)

lmao. well, i didn't bother mentioning my hdd transfer speeds weren't any noticeably better in the 3.0 enclosure. and i was transferring from ssd to ssd over 3.0. the ssd holds a sustained speed and what windows tell you is a lot more accurate from a ssd than when transferring from/to a hdd. had i been doing any of the above with a hdd in or out of my laptop things surely would've been different. it's great not having your music skip or do max headroom on you.

If you're using the Windows (C: drive) partition to copy/move from, it will be much slower no matter what interface you use. Here, an SSD can/should make a difference.

If you're using an non-boot/system partition (i.e.: purely a data drive) to copy/move data to another pure data drive, then you may even see higher speeds on the HDD's than the SSD - depending on the SSD and how full the HDD's are, of course.

stuck with full c: partition on ssd inside laptop. rarely move from pure data to data drive. never went back to desktop after my first laptop. still haven't found anything portable about a desktop.

I guessed (to myself) that you have a single drive bay - but for people with two or more drive bays, USB3.0 or eSATA and an external 'pure data' storage device, your data transferring issues would never surface. ;)

i really haven't had any transfer issues. until ssd, everything was... uhm, what it was. now my only issue really is that any computer i use without an ssd will seem slow. how's that for issues? can't wait for patience to come knocking on my door.
