I've been using this USB wireless adapter for a few years, now, from the same location (2nd floor office); recently, its had trouble staying connected to the wireless router in the basement (D-Link DI-624). I estimate that the two are separated by about 25 feet of air and house.

this is what happens: after a varying amount of time, if I look to see the signal speed, it'll say 2Mbps and strength is excellent. I'll no connectivity at that point. What seems to work is physically disconnecting the adapter from its cable, and re-connecting it. under XP Home sp2, it is automatically found and installed. sometimes I need to wait a few minutes, or I'll get the error message that the device cannot be started (error 10).

I'm suspicious that this is a hardware issue, although the tech at Verizon said he'd never heard of any problems (I started with their DSL service, and now have FIOS). This AM when it locked/crapped-out/died, I took off the 2 ant-skid rubber feet hiding the screws, popped it open and (as expected) found absolutely nothing to indicate a problem. When I am connected, I see the signal strength ranging from 1 green bar to 2; the speed ranges from 1Mbps to 24 [highly dependent on environmental factors, much like rabbit ears on my old b&w TV used to be].

Has anyone had a similar problem, particularly with this model (westell A90-211WG-01 wireless USB adapter)? Or does anyone have any suggestions? just by way of comparison, I'm currently at 'Wireless connection 9' but had been at 'Wireless connection3' for a long, long time.

    tia, Rick
