i read many bad reviews of these.. i have always used western in my desktops for years and have ha hardly ever a problem... who has these and how are they really? the scorpio line?? do they really fail a lot? thanks

There are some reports on Newegg, but only on Newegg, of problems with the WD2500BEVS.
I've got two of them and they seem to be fine according to the WD diagnostics and my own observations although Active SMART would like me to believe that death is imminent (because, I think, it can't read the SMART data properly).
I'm sure that if the WD Scorpios had consistent problems then there would be much more discussion here.

I put mine thru considerable duress with file sharing and its working great so far. Its silent, runs cool, and has a great value point for the performance and storage space in it (250gb model)
