so iv had the laptop in my sig for coming on 4 years now, one of the hinges is snapped on the lid and the gfx cards have gradually croaked. I cant get anything but weird colours and lines when I turn it on now.

....paid £1700 for this thing, is it now worth anything to anyone?! is t worth fixing? is there a recycling thing for old laptops like there is for old phones?! any advice apreciated

If you are in USA check your local Best Buy. I believe they have a recycling program for free.

For the graphics cards, you could try bake them.

isn't the heat what broke them in the first place?! it started off with little light blue lines all across the screen and the computer was still useable but now the display is totally kaput and when I turn on theres just multicoloured lines everywhere.

Does it work if you connect an external monitor or does it seem that the graphics cards themselves are kaput? Google up how to bake graphics cards back to life. Otherwise, you could recycle it as above, or try sell it on eBay whole or as parts.

Or you could set it up as a headless machine (no monitor). Maybe a low-power server for file storage?
