    what cpu should i have for gaming

    i found a good deal for 512 9700gt, but it only has a 2.26 cpu speed.
    should the cpu be higher at 2.53 or 2.8 ???????

    anything above 2ghz is generally fine for gaming.... anything above and your gfx card will become the bottleneck

    Not necessarily.

    As said, anything above 2GHz is good for gaming. (Check the specs of the games you'll be playing)

    i understand that a cpu needs to have speed to beable to shunt the data to the gpu in order to get that great resolution and performance, but what is a good speed?

    Yes, that is somewhat right. So with a faster CPU, you'll get a couple of frames extra per second.
    Honestly, spending >$100 more to get a higher fps doesn't really make sense.
    2.0 vs 2.5, you'll get about 10fps higher with the latter. It won't help resolution. Everything related to graphics will depend upon your GPU. If you're an enthusiast, get a 9800M.
    So again, a Good Speed is 2GHz/+.
