    Dear All,

I am currently havingh the laptop ACER ASPIRE 5920G which already have 4gb RAM.

I like to extend it to 8G OR 6GB. Can anybody tell acer aspire 5920g supports this?

Processor in my laptop is CORE 2 DUO 2.2 GHZ.

    Regards,
    Jay

People have been known to run 8GB on the PM965, so there is a good chance it would work. Ask in the Acer forum though.

According to the official sources, you are already at the maximum RAM for your hardware.

    See:
Acer Support: Aspire 5920G Series Specifications

    See:
    Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset

That doesn't mean thought that it will not work for sure...

    See:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...et-upgrades/397378-8gb-ram-pm965-chipset.html

The point I'm trying to make is that to simply try it (if you can return the new RAM with no restocking fee...) is the best way of knowing what will happen in your system.

Before you do though, make sure you are running the latest BIOS for your system.

    Good luck.

Not all PM965 chipsets are created the same! My Vostro 1500 doesn't take 8 GB RAM but the 1700 and Inspiron 1720 does. :(

You may want to get this thread moved to the Acer sub section if you want exact answers.

Well first you have to look at what Operating System you are running. XP will only recognize up to 3GB. But Win7 will recognize 16GB. I'm sure Vista (<- ) is the same as Win7, but knowing Vista's flaws it's probably only 3.
Second you need to see what your current chipset will support. Some chipsets will only recognize a certain amount of RAM regardless of OS. Check for an updated chipset and BIOS (<- only flash BIOS if you know what you're doing) and how many RAM slots there are on your laptop. My guess there is 2 extra. It has the factory RAM and then 2 slots to add more RAM.

    NocturnalLunacy,

    Good catch about the O/S!

Although I'm sure the OP is running a 64bit O/S anyway (at least I hope so).

Different versions of Windows (Vista and 7) will utilize different amounts of Maximum RAM. The Ultimate versions which I've run (both Vista and currently 7) both support more RAM than is economically feasible to install in desktops or notebooks (192GB, if I'm not mistaken for Windows 7 and 128GB for Vista - both 'Ultimate' versions).

    Just to add: It's hynix low-density modules - Hyundai Electronics HMP351S6AFR8C-S6 :)

Now running a pair of Elpida EBE41UF8ABDA-8G-E, SPDs are editable, means FSB-overclock friendly :D As added bonus they come with factory heat-spreaders :D

Yes, but with PM/GM965 it's not 100% until you check it for yourself. I took the shot and here it is first hand confirmation :)

    Great Thanks triturbo!
It was hard to breath with 4Gb RAM recently. Working with virtual machines and java web servers I always dreamt of more RAM. I risked to buy same 2 Hynix 4GB PC2-6400S DDR2 Memory RAM HMP351S6AFR8C-S6 and it works!!! I've ran memtest for 1 hours(didn't had more time yet), 1 test passed and it found no errors.
Also with 8 Gb RAM it should be possible to turn windows swap off and install SSD drive. So 8 Gb RAM unlocked other upgrade possibilities for me.

My configuration(Hope it can help to someone else):

    Hello; :hi2:

It's great that it can and great forum!

I also want to add more memory and more to my notebook but I need some help.
Where can I find the latest BIOS (flash)?
I want to use the memory/ssd from my broken Acer Aspire Ethos 8251G. Is it possible?

    Any help would be great.

If your current notebook is the Acer Aspire 5920G, then you won't be able to use the RAM from the broken system.

The Ethos has DDR3 RAM modules and the 5920G has DDR2 RAM. Physically different slots and electrical characteristics.

You can use the SSD, of course.
