The Vertex 1 feels to me like a modern SSD... fast.

I used my Vertex 1 32 GB for nearly a year, then upgraded to my 320 series 160 GB...just as fast.

Newer drives will be faster in synthetic benchmarks.

To the normal user it will feel similar though.

Your 4K writes look slow to me (at least compared to a more modern SSD like the M4)... I think this would make a big difference in the general feeling of 'zippness' and bootup (I'd read that 4/8K writes are important when booting)... it may be that your drive just needs to be securely wiped in order to restore performance - but i've only recently got into the SSD game, so someone else will know much more about that than me.

Englishcoder is right, 4K write should be higher.

Small correction though, 4K writes don't really affect booting. They do affect things like installation, file copies and multi-tasking.

The lower 4K write performance might be caused by mis alignment, write caching, wrong AHCI setting or chipset problems.

    Easy way:
Download AS SSD benchmark tool, open it and take a screenshot of the main window.
(do not run the actual benchmark)

Can you run these tests using 100MB (rather than 50MB), as the seq write, and random write 512K - seem very good (much better than M4 64GB from what i've seen)

    Cheers 3Fees.

The samsung 64GB has excellent seq and random 512K writes (M4 is limited to around 100MB/s), but M4 read speeds are much better, and M4 Q32 is better... so possibly a tricky decision to make.

However, my recommendation for this thread would be to get a 128GB drive (I think 64GB drives are just too small), and there the M4 shines.
