Any way you can get a better shot of the text on the various chips, especially the main GPU? It can be hard to tell from just board layout.
-
did you try to google what's printed on the GPU chip?
Please let us know what's printed on the chip, that would help to identify the type of cards you have -
no, i see this using google picture search, just this photo
the guy selling this says its 5970 and alienware/clevo nb can use it
..........but cant even find a card using rv870 core on notebook check -
Some french tech-crazies pulled a slightly cut-down desktop 5870 in MXM 3.0 format in collaboration with AMD a while back, with an announced 80W TDP. That might be part of the explanation ? But it was supposed to be integrated in a space-saving desktop case and not in a notebook, to my knowledge.

Too big and square to be Juniper HD5870M, and HD4870M's die wasn't mounted on a slant like that.
It does look like it's a Cypress die and there's an ENG mark under the ATI logo so it could've been an early test card....so maybe it's Lexington. -
rep +1 -
It seems to be a M97-XT with 640sp
Mobility 4860 / Firepro M7740
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Carefully examined, it is indeed a RV870 core rather than a RV740....
Then, no idea about how that guy in ShangHai acquired such rare ES. -

That's how it looks like from the back site ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting
You can read there that this is engeenering sample and date: 06/16/2009. I found this card back ago and I was wondering myself what core it might be. The die is realy big, for sure bigger then available at this time 4870m. It looks more like desktop 5800 series but if I'm not wrong those card were realised half year later around october, december 2009. I'm really curious to try this card but I dont have right mobo at the moment, specially that it's really cheap at the dhgate.com -around 85pounds.

Use google for pictures of AMD's RV870 chip, also known as "Cypress." This is most definitely it. It is used in the desktop Radeon HD 5830, 5850, 5870, and 5970. Even at the lowest end of "Cypress," it is better than any other mobile AMD 5000 series chip.

Second line up from the bar code on the green label, the word after ASIC Type looks like it says Lexington.
6/16/2009 puts it right before the launch of the HD5000 series when ES chips would've been in testing. -
Then, let me get this straight: If we assume that it is actually Lexington, card based on desktop Cypress core, then there'a two things certain: it draw a lot of juice and it have great performance, maby even around 6970m. And one more question: who wanne check it for us
.
what is this card?
