u cud go for the 2x2GB PC2-5300....but i think that AtI chipset can handle a max of only PC2-4200....but there is not much diff in price....so it'd be better to go for the former....
windows xp may read from anywhere b/w 2.5 - 3.5GB depending upon ur I/O devices such as the GPU, etc....
if u r on a tight budget go for a 3GB upgrade or else try out the 2x2GB config.... :)
if ur gpu eats off memory from the ram when the gpu's memory size is increased....then go for the 4GB upgrade because xp wud read somewhere around 3gig and the gpu and other i/o devices wud feed off the remaining ~1gb of ram....!!

Thanks for the reply angad. So there's no harm in buying PC-5300 over PC-4200, right? I understand that I might not get the full worth out of 4GB, but whatever. Do you think 4GB will be a significant boost compared to 2GB?

I'll just need to find some cheap deals. Finding a place that is either in Canada or ships to Canada isn't the easiest thing.

If anyone knows good places to find RAM in Canada, please let me know!

    Thanks!

no it ll cause no harm at all....since rams are backward compatible the PC2-5300 will run at speeds similar to that of the PC2-4200....!!
and yes 4GB will be better than 2gig....about 3.2gig will be used and the rest will be reserved for other i/o devices....!!
