    hi all,

I have hp pavilion dv6 for two years, now i need to upgrade the HDD.
i found a 1.5 tb but the sellar said 'This drive is 14.8mm thick, not the typical 9.5mm''.

will this work for me?if not whats the largest capacity that would work?

The DV6 should only be able to take 9.5mm 2.5" SATA drives. The largest 9.5mm drive that is 7200 rpm is 750 GB. I believe Samsung has a 1 TB 9.5mm but it is 5400 rpm.

I can confirm that HP DV6 machines support only 9.5mm thick, 2.5" SATA hard drives. The largest capacity hard drive in 9.5mm from Western Digital is the WD7500BPVT (Scorpio Blue in 5,400RPM) and the WD7500BPKT (Scorpio Black in 7,200RPM). Both are 750GB capacity hard drives.

So, to answer your original question, no, the 1.5TB hard drive you found will not fit in your HP DV6 machine. However, both Western Digital hard drives I mentioned above will.

yup its 750GB 7200rpm drive from WD. I think Seagate has one too. However , if you want more speed i suggest you get a Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive which is probably faster than any 7200rpm drive.

A 12.5mm HDD can be install via a 12.7mm optical bay caddy requiring the optical drive to be swapped out. The primary HDD bay otherwise cannot accept anything taller than 9.5mm.
