opened up my keyboard to upgrade the ram and the screws housing the so-dimms are untouchable. i've tried for hours with the correct screwdrivers and they won't budge.

Try a different screwdriver with a larger handle so that you can get more torque.

Jeweler screwdrivers have really tiny handles. Go to the hardware store and buy a set of precision screwdrivers with standard handles. Or a handle adapter to put of your current screwdrivers if they have one that fits.

or get an electric screwdriver(non magnetic). But whatever you do be careful not to damage the screw's head by using the wrong screwdriver.

Go get a Husky 8-in-1 Precision Screwdriver Set from Home Depot. Nice sharp tips to dig into the screw head and the handles are fat enough to get a reasonable amount of torque. Buy the Husky Torx Screwdriver Set while you're at it, you never know. I had to take apart a HP business-class notebook that had lots of Torx screws.

i got sick of it so i ripped the metal compartment off with pliers. the ram slots are strong enough to hold them in. so got everything sorted :D

wouldn't have dared do that with a new laptop but this basically is my testing one untill i buy a new one soon.

CaJaKs2: I tried that and it didn't get me anywhere. Dell and alienware need to understand that screws should be hand tight, not prison cell tight.

it also could have been easier if you wrapped a rubber band around the handle.

Don`t you just hate HP for that? I DO
The set you mentioned is similar to what I used to pry open my NX9420...
