I posted here a little earlier about someone spilling rum and coke on my Inspiron 700m around the keyboard area (which was completely ruined). The problem was it powered on but nothing came up on the screen. So I figured the video was fried, since the screen was flipped up when the spill ocurred and there was barely anything around the screen area. So I got a new motherboard and keyboard, reassembled but still get the same issue (which is really frusterating due to the high cost of the motherboard!). I don't get any beeps or anything when i turn it on. The exhaust fan is going, and i'm pretty sure the hard drive is spinning. Anyone got any ideas on what the problem could or how I could go about finding out what it is?

You say the screen doesn't turn on. I would venture to say that the monitor circuitry was fried.

I had a friend with a Sony Vaio. He had it playing music at a party and a person spilled a whole glass of beer on it. It was pronounced dead the next day, after all the drying that could happen.

6 months later he tried turning it on, and amazingly it worked! I assume it was because the machine was able to completely dry out. The beer may not have had a chance to get all the way into the system though.

In any case, you've probably got a bad monitor right now. It sounds like the machine is working except for that. I would try plugging in an external monitor...assuming you can get one to work w/o changing settings. If you can't, you might have to replace that as well.

I agree it is probably the monitor I just replaced one for this reason someone spilt coke on their pc. If under warranty you can get replaced for nothing but otherwise a new monitor is 400-500 or more. Try using an external monitor and that is a way this machine can live on also.

    Best of luck.

I plugged it into an external monitor and nothing appeared on it as it started up. The monitor is definitely getting some sort of signal, because when i unplugged the monitor from the notebook there was a "No signal" display on the monitor. Now, what do you think the problem could be? Hard drive? RAM? something else?
