I noticed this about the time I bought my Pavilion dv6040ca a couple of months ago. Sold that, bought my new W3jp (although I admit it's really starting to grow on me and this "problem" isn't annoying me enough as it should), and guess what? Although viewing angles and brightness are way above of the HP, whites still appear to be more "pinkish" than what I'd call "pure white". Has this to do with me moving to another apartment and the lighting being a tad darker? I seem to recall my dv6040 screen exhibiting the same screen issues as I have from the last place I lived. Man am I confused.

A lot of times that's a sign the LCD backlight is starting to die. My friend has a four year old Toshiba with the same problem, he has to let it "warm up" for 5 minutes before the screen resumes normal color. In your case, perhaps the ambient lighting of your room is somewhat reddish in tone. Try it outside?

The problem with outside is that you will wash the screen out so much that you probably won't be able to tell what the colors really should be. My V6j has the "Asus Splendid Technology Utility" on it, which allows you to adjust the screen settings with regard to things like color. I would check what setting you are in, maybe you can find one that gets you the color you like.

No I agree, when I saw the screen on my Compaq V3000, looked normal to me. But after comparing it to my Vaio TX's screen, it now looks to have a reddish tint to it, the Vaio's screen is more pure white.
what's up with reddish-tint notebook screens these days?
