ok so i know this is probably a total n00b question but uh.. whats the difference between a core duo and a core duo 2 like the two listed below?
    Intel® Core™ Duo Proc T2300E (1.66GHz/667MHz/1 X 2MB L2 Cache)

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5500 (2MB Cache/1.66GHz/667MHz FSB)

The biggest difference is 64 bit. The core 2 duo has this so it means you can run 64bit software such as windows vista. However there is a 32bit version of vista and it is going to be a couple of years before 64bit software becomes common place.
As for for performance between the two you are barely going to notice.] the slight advantage the core 2 duo has.
So if you are planning on keeping the notebook for a while get the core 2 duo. But thats not saying the core duo is useless. It still has more than enough power for most users.
