the new hitachi 320gb 7200rpm.
when is it comming out?![]()
-
why not 5k500?
-
Because 5K500 is not suitable for most NBs......
-
the 500gb 5k500 has the same platters as the 320gb drives, so it is going to run the same speed as the 320gb drives, or about 53mb/sec.
The 320gb 7200rpm drive has 2 160gb platters at 7200rpm, so it should run faster than the 200gb 7200drives. I am estimating about 64-70mb/sec as the speed for this drive. It will be pretty fast, and worthwhile for the notebook enthusiasts.

However, the 5K500 is 12.5mm instead of the standard 9.5mm thickness, hence why most notebooks cannot support it. The 320GB 7200RPM drive has been benched and it outperforms the 500GB 5400RPM drive, despite its higher areal density.

There is a review about a 320/7200 here on the forum, but I thing it`s a Seagate...
-
WD released their 7200rpm 320gb too but it's not selling anywhere either. these companies should sell them soon
-
i know 9.5mm version isn't out yet, but since the OP is waiting for the 7k200, he might as well just wait for the 9.5mm 5k500
-
>< I'm the op and both the hitach and new WD scorpio are 9.5mm
-
I think deaffob is right, ALL 2.5 inch hard drives on the market EXCEPT the 5k500 are ALL 9.5 mm I THINK.
I'm pretty sure on this one, though I might be wrong. Is this true? -
I'm also wanting to know when it's coming out. I am constantly transferring files and entire game directories to my external to make room for newer games. If anyone finds a retailer selling them, post the link please.
-
Be prepared for a high price, WD 320/7200 are said to hit the market at 250ish$ ...
-
Can anyone tell me if this Hitachi 7k320 drive is out? When does it hit USA market? I hope soon - really want this hard drive...
-
I'm curious too. The fact that no shop has it for pre order yet, and there is not a single review out there yet, makes it seem like it might take a while.
I thought WD might be faster to the market, but it seems they remove their order button from the website:

The Seagate 7200 RPM 320GB drive finally has a product page, but it's still not shipping. It's also $200. Yikes! This of course is Zipzoomfly, not the gold standard of Newegg. -
Damn I want to see reviews. Hitachi vs. Seagate vs. WD. vs. Fujitsu. This is exciting.

250GB 23,420 yen
160GB 13,980 yen
120GB 9,980 yen
80GB 8,900 yen

Japanese prices blow. They are rip offs, and Akihabara (or Akiba to you otaku) is one of the most expensive places. Its cheaper to even go to your local shop but still a rip...
-
I know this is still long way to go and to soon to judge - but what drive do you think outperform the others? In terms of speed/power consumption. I don't mind the noise - they all seem to be quite
-
I'd put my money on Hitachi 7K320 being the fastest.

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
When do you guys think the price will drop into the $100 to $140 range?
-
It will take a while. I do see you have a pretty good machine, the only thing holding it back is your HD, both in speed and space.
