The front page news post on the 14" LG lappy with a hybrid drive was pretty interesting... Does anyone know when we will be able to purchase stand alone hybrid drives?

Well solid state drives are going to cost an arm and a leg... and then some.

I suspect hybrid hard drives will be available for purchase soon...just not in the next month.

SSDs are a long time away from being reasonable for stores to stock. So far, reasonable capacities are in the $1000s of dollars.

Yeah I agree SSD's are a long way off.. the biggest SSD I have heard of is 32GB which would run an OS with some basic applications no problem though would cost a small fortune that only Fortune500 executives could carry around with a big SSD badge on saying how rich they are!

The hybrid drives are interesting though and should be affordable as the solid state memory component is around 4GB I think. There is "Robson" technology which is something to do with this stuff which makes "efficient" use of these hybrid drives (I have no clue how it works??).
