Hello to you all, hope everyone had a great christmas/holiday.

    looking for some advice please....
... can anyone advise me where i can purchase new or used (not too bothered) inte cpu's?...preferably the t5850.

I am wanting to perform an upgrade on my acer 5315 to this CPU but cannot find a supplier on the web to accomodate. I have tried one site called laptopking.com which are very reasonably priced but unfortunatley do not ship to the UK.

apart from ebay any advice would be much appreciated as now getting fed up with my 2.0ghz celeron!!!

    thanks

I second ebay for buying in the UK.

Just to say, before I bought from them about a month ago, I was very anti-ebay, though when I registered, I now know how great and easy it is.

    I got a T7300 for my 5315 for £63 incl. delivery.

    There are some T5450s (1.66ghz) and T5550s (1.86ghz) going for around £30.
There arent any T5850s at the moment, but there is a T5750 going for £56.99 + £3.00 postage.

I Highly recommend the T7300 though (one going for £65 currently)
If you're feeling ambitious, you could even go for a T8300 for £100 which would be very quick, and is one of the fastest cpu's it supports I think.

I'd say Newegg or eBay. For used parts you'd have to go through some forums that have sales forums and see if any users have broken machines and are parting out.

...thanks for your info much appreciated. Not sure though with the T7300 as GL960 chipset is not supposedly be able to support this cpu. Do you have the GL960 chipset on your acer or different? If you have have you had any problems etc as don't want to risk breaking the thing!!

    thanks

Just to add my little bit, I had a 5315 a while ago, and upgraded to a T7500 without any issues, got it from ebay for £30, flashed the bios and worked like a charm, there is a good sticky in the Acer section as Andy says, located here:

NBR Marketplace always has somebody selling Intel CPU's either new or used, and I trust the fellow NBR Members to not scam anybody. :D

I have the same notebook as you, the 5315, so yes, it does support the T7300.
Also, I'm still confused by this, but I think GL960 = GMA 965, because according to cpu-z I have GL960, but Vista, Windows 7 and Xp's device managers show GMA 965...

Also, during the install, following the sticky on the Acer forum, I had no problems and everything went fine, except I couldnt unplug the fan, but I you don't need to as you can still move it out of the was with it pluged in.
I upgraded the RAM at the same time too.

Can't go wrong with eBay if you read feedback first.
