I'm hearing a lot about this program and have seen a lot of sites with downloads - are they all the same program? Is there something other than the expensive symantec program that people use successfully?

I have an Asus W7J with 100g hardrive - it came partitioned and I changed to NFTS - but before I read about cluster sizes.

So I would like some guidance regarding cluster size (I have 512) and partition sizes for a 100g hd. What works best?

    Thanks :)

    Lisa

Partition Magic is a program you must buy.

I'm not sure if there is a freeware version of it, but it was the best $80 I've spent a few years ago :)

It certainly looks good. What do you recommend regarding partition size and cluster size?

It depends, for me, I have a 100gb HD and I usually have tons of music, video files, pictures, etc., so 20% for c, 75% for d: and there is a 3rd one for system files which takes up the rest of the space.

You should usually just leave cluster size at the default settings.

Try searching Google for the GPartEd LiveCD - it's a free, Unix-based GUI tool similar to Partition Magic, but arguably more powerful.

Just as Jalf stated, leave cluster size to default.

No you can't. The trial version shows what you can do, but doesn't actually make any changes ;)
