Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I dont' think laptops can use 3 gb/s. The reviews look to be pretty much the same. I would say go with the seagate cus its cheaper. But also, you can get a 250 gig drive cheaper, so think about that too (but it'll be 5400 rpm instead of 7200).

yeah, i'm really looking for a 7200rpm... thats what i'm running now, and at times.. it can still be slow. I might need a new proc, the t7500 is getting slow.

A 250 gig 5400 should be faster than a 120 gig 7200. But hard drives aren't my specialty so wait for someone to confirm that.

A 250gb 5400 drive will be faster than a 120gb 7200rpm drive in bandwidth and read/write speeds. The 7200rpm drive will only have faster access times. However the higher data density of the 5400rpm drive generates more bandwidth to compensate for the slower access times.

I triple that response. The 7k200 from Hitachi or the 200gb momentus from seagate are able to maintain speeds of 52mb/sec which is faster than the 44mb/sec of a 250gb 5400rpm drive.

Intel's chipset supports SATA/300; however, the hard drive will never be able to take advantage of the difference so it won't matter performance wise.

I'd like to add that the 200GB Seagate Momentus 7200.2 is overall a slower drive than the Hitachi 7K200, so if you can get the Hitachi.

Actually a 250GB Hitachi 5K250 (5400 rpm) will outperform a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 in many areas.

How do you plan to use it?
As your system disk or external disk?
What applications/games are most important to you?

it'll be my system disk. Games dont matter much to me, since i don't play them too often. I use adobe softwares alot, and lots of 3d cad/modeling/rendering programs.

Well a good SSD is the fastest but the most expensive. After that it's the 320GB Hitachi 7K200 or Western Digital Black Scorpio (around $200, just becoming available). A bit slower and cheaper than that is the Hitachi 7K200 200GB. A bit slower and cheaper than that are the 320GB 5400rpm HDDs like WD Scorpio.
