Neither. Get the OCZ Vertex - the 60Gb model was $169.99 on newegg.com after rebate, last I checked. eCost sells the same, at $179.99 or something.

Agreed. The SuperTalent ME uses the same controller also and should be close in performance, though i'm not sure about support.

Only drives you should even consider are ones with Samsung, Indilinx, or Intel's controllers.

Agreed also, though given the sub $200 SSD's the OP is looking at, it isn't always easy to find samsung or intel controllers (though that will vary depending on region, definitely not easy in Canada).

Well, what exactly are you looking for? The fastest of the fast? A relatively good value? Highest capacity?

You might want to consider a 64GB Samsung SLC or a 32GB Mtron SLC, but with the $40 rebate, the 60GB Vertex is probably your best bet. Even in the off chance that it has some fatal flaw, you're not out by much. You should definitely stay away from the Apex since it's both a power hog and a poor IO performer based on dual JMicron flash controllers and a single JMicron RAID controller.

Vertex is MLC. The only practical SLC drives on Newegg are certain Samsung drives and various flavors of X25-E. If you want something cheaper than $200, there is a 30GB variant of the Vertex that goes for about $100; maybe less with an MIR, but for the most part, I'd say $200 is about the minimum you have to spend for a quality SSD these days (unless you get really lucky).

Vertex 30GB hands down. The other three are basically the same JMicron-based drive. The OCZ Core should be the best of those other three, but saying that is like saying its the worst of three evils. You should not even consider any of the other three.

Samsung 64GB SLC for ~$180-200? Despite lower sequential speed, performance difference is not noticeable due to hardly ever utilizing that value. Randoms are more important and SLC is also proven to be better than traditional HDs, the verdict on MLC is still up in the air.

Posting here, as I posted this elsewhere in a discussion with Mr Moo, but felt it was worth adding to this thread...
