For noteboo computers, most RAM is basicially the same. I would be more concerned with my retailer than with the RAM itself. If my retailer has good customer service and good RMA practices, then I'd get the RAM they have.
If you are talking desktop RAM, then there are many considerations to take into accound. -
Does the brand of RAM make any difference at all to the RAM performance? As long as they are exactly the same specifications, in memory, clock speed, latency...etc, and the two were compared in a test, surely both brands of RAM would perform similarly.

i think the main reason that people suggest getting brand name ram is that brand name ram is much more reliable than a no-name brand. this is not to say that no-brand ram doesn't work well....they just have been known to mess up more often.

I would imagine quality control & testing plays a large part.
Good manufacturers I know of:
Kingston
Crucial
Corsair
PNY
OCZ -

WHY? -
I had never heard of OCZ prior to last week. But when I searched for DDR2 pc 4200 533 mhz chips, newegg.com had them (I totally trust that site) and with a $9 rebate, the chip was like $70 or so.
I popped the chip in yesterday when I got my laptop, it booted up and recognized the new chip, and then I ran memtest 3.4 for over an hour with zero errors.
I don't think brand name is important, I think getting RAM that matches your system specs is important. The OCZ website didn't even list the Dell XPS M140 as a compatible laptop for its products, but it is!!!
which brand of ram do you use and how is the best?
