    T2300 @ 1.66GHz but with bus 667 while the T2250 is @ 1.73GHz but with bus 533 ???

The T2300 is better, than T2250 is a low cost version with a slower bus, and no virtualization enabled.

I don't think the T2300 has virtualization either if you care. I suppose in theory the T2300 is faster, but for everyday tasks I suspect they will offer similar performance.

I think it was the T2300e that had it stripped out.

The T2300E is the one without the VT (Virtulization), although to be honest, 90% of most home users right now won't benefit from that feature anyways.

For most everyday tasks, the FSB won't get saturated enough, so the higher clockspeed of the T2250 (1.73GHz) will be slightly faster than the T2300(E) (1.66GHz) in most apps and tasks. The only time you would see the T2300(E) faster would be under heavy I/O apps when the FSB is saturated, or under 3D gaming when lots of data needs to be transferred/handled by the CPU (say for example, physics calculations)... however, the graphics processor will play a much more important role being the limiting factor and not the CPU or the FSB.

Personally, if its between a T2250 and the T2300E, I'd pick the T2250 and the slightly faster clockspeed. If its between a T2250 and regular T2300 and the T2250 is cheaper, I'd pick the T2250 still unless you definately need/want the VT tech.

ya i don't care about the VT at all

and yes the 2550 is cheaper which will let me get 1GB of ram instead of 512 and a larger HDD

Thanks all for your very helpful replies :)

As posted, both the T2250 and the T2300E will offer very similar performance. The performance difference should not be noticeable in anything but benchmarks, and even then it will not be significant. Get whatever one is cheaper.

I don't know of anyone selling the T2300 so I'm guessing it is the T2300E.

Definitely get the extra RAM ;). You wouldn't notice the difference between processors anyway.

Glossy displays are reflective; in my opinion, this makes them a bad choice for office environments because the reflections can get very annoying. Many people find matte screens easier on the eyes for extended use versus glossy ones. I would go with the matte screen and play it safe.

Upgrade your RAM after you get it. If there's an option to drop the base memory down to 256Mb, do it, and buy aftermarket. If you really don't want to do that, get at least 1GB of RAM with your notebook.

why dropping the ram and getting a 1GB after market si better than buying another 512 module with the notebook ?

    EDIT:

maybe it is better cause i will be able to get DDR2-667 which is better than DDR2-533 ? or something else ?

also will any DDR2-667 work on Lenovo ??

I would go for the RAM after the fact. You won't notice that much of a difference between the 533 and 667 its usaully cheaper to get RAM from newegg or someplace like that rather than the company your purchasing from.

companies mark up their ram prices

you can save money by buying the cheapest ram option and then buy your own online and save some money

although, the place where you bought the laptop won't service your RAM, if somethings goes wrong with your RAM you have to deal with the place that you bought it from

yes you can put ddr2-667 ram on that lenovo

I agree that you will want at least 1 GB of RAM in that system--whether you buy it from the reseller or upgrade it yourself. There are pros and cons to either side.

ya, mainly i will use this lappy for programming beside office and internet use

so i am sure 1GB of ram is a must, not less and not more
