I'm thinking about buying one of these two laptops, here are the specs

    Dell XPS m1530:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 3MB Cache)
4GB3 Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
Size: 320GB4 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT

    Gateway M-152XL:

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor3 T8300 (2.40GHz, 800MHz FSB, 3MB L2 cache)
    3072MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (1-1024MB & 1-2048 MB module)
    160GB 7200rpm Serial ATA hard drive w/ 8MB cache7
    Intel® PM965 Chipset and ATI Mobility™ Radeon® HD 2600 Graphics with 512MB GDDR3 Dedicated Memory

Which one will play games like Bioshock better and which one would be better to carry around and stuff?

    Thanks!

ATI card is not better and 160GB @7200 HDD is not faster but other than that I agree with above post.

That's not so cut and dried. Most people seem to think 8600M=HD 2600 (NOT XT). Also, a 320GB 5400 RPM drive will have similar performance to a 160GB 7200 RPM drive due to data density on the disk. The Dell is lighter, and the dimensions are nearly identical. I'd go XPS, as performance is a wash between the two and the XPS is more mobile.

    Is the 8600 GT DDR3?

If so, I'd get the XPS M1530.

256MB on XPS is, and even if it wasn't, would be a toss up at best. HD 2600 competes with 8600 GS.

So they are both the same in terms of Graphics but the m1530 is lighter?

Well, the graphics cards compete with each other, so they'll give you the same performance.

Secondly, the 320 GB hard drive competes with the 200 GB 7200 RPM drive for performance, so in theory the 320 GB drive is faster than the 160 GB drive, even at 7200 RPM. If the 160 GB drive is only ONE PLATTER, then the 160 GB drive will be a bit faster than the 320 GB drive, since they both will have the identical drive density, but one goes at 7200 RPM.

Hands down, the 320 GB drive is far better, as its speed is most likely faster, and more space.

    Go with the M1530 =D
