i m using an 'asus' notebook. a quite old model with a cd-rom.
currently is thinking to do some changes because the disc space always run low. and i would like to store more movies.

    my questions :

    1. to get a hard disc, so that can store more movies? An external ? or an
internal laptop? or PC internal and asssemble it my own?
any recommendation and how much will it cost?

    2. to get a dvd writer, so tat i can copy out those movies to avoid using up
my disc space? if so, external or internal one better?
any recommendation and how much will it cost?

    3. or should i get both done?

    thanks.

I used to burn all my media files to CD/DVD but with the advent of some really cheap 500GB drives I've given up on that. While CD/DVD storage is much cheaper per gigabyte of space they become really inconvenient to work with after you start accumulating a large collection of CD/DVD.

If you're only looking for some sort of medium to long term storage medium, I'd advise an external drive, if you actually need the space on your computer, get an internal drive. I don't think CD/DVD is a terribly convenient way of storing large amounts of data.

Well, how much space do you currently have?

Anyways, if you need a lot, and do foresee needing a lot in the future, then go external. You can buy one really expensive one now but you can always buy one cheap one now and buying some more cheap ones when the price continues to drop out.

    Why pick and choose?

A cheap 12-18X USB burner sells for $50, and a cheap 250-320GB external drive sells for less than $100.

    That would be my recommendation.

Only get external if you think you will always need access to these files, if it's mainly for archival purposes then external is best and usually cheaper with larger capacity options.

Be sure to check if your laptop has USB 1 or 2.

If you have USB 1 and decide to buy an external USB hard drive, you're going to have transfers of around 0.7MB/sec (ha ha from experience), so then you should be prepared to get a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card... uhh same for the USB DVD burner.
