    Hello,

I would like to purchase a CULV laptop - I want the coolest and quietest laptop around, with temperature taking priority. Part of the reason I would like this is to prevent offgassing. I currently have a macbook which overheats too much, and is much more powerful than i require.

I surf the internet, word process, watch youtube, Skype video, edit the occasional photos, scan pictures occasionally, edit the very occasional movie. Mostly I surf, instant message and word process.

Which would be the coolest laptop processor for me?

    Core i3-330UM or Core i5-430UM / Core i5-540UM

    thanks

All 3 will run the same temperature. All are 18 watt chips.

    my uses are stated above.

would a graphics card make things run cooler or warmer?

TDP is not power consumption. Differences won't be much but the lower frequency CPU will run cooler since it will consume less power than higher clocked ones, doesn't matter what the TDP is (within same generation). For the OPs uses, integrated graphics is enough.

The lack of turbo boost causes the i3 to ran a little cooler.People with Acer 1830T with i3 and i5 are describing them both as cool machines withthe i3 being a touch cooler.

    Agreed.

Generally warmer. With your usage opt for integrated Intel graphics.
